[The Official Statement of Yoshimura Co., Ltd in regards to Tokunoshima’s inclusion in the World Heritage list]
We are thrilled to hear the news that Tokunoshima is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list along with Amami Oshima, the northern part of the Okinawa Prefecture’s main island, and Iriomotejima island as Japan’s fifth such natural site.
It is such an honor that our beloved hometown is recognized as a natural treasure trove of the world. This is certainly an uplifting moment during this difficult time when the Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge negative impact on our community for over a year. We hope that this inclusion in the World Heritage list will send the message to the world the importance of nature conservation once again and increase the brand value of the island as well.
This year marks the 74th anniversary of our company. We will continue to serve the community of Tokunoshima as a key social infrastructure through our services including Daimaru, Family Mart, Can ★ Do, Recycle Mart, and Tokushi-Maru. We also continue to cooperate with both domestic and foreign authorities when they need assistance in regards to Tokunoshima’s inclusion in the World Heritage site. We are very much looking forward to serving people from all around the world who will visit this beautiful island, Tokunoshima, for many years to come.
